Quantitative trading and computer-driven trading hedge funds in general make up one of the more mysterious sectors in the hedge fund market, with closely-guarded strategies and models that often discourage investors from entrusting their assets into a system they rarely comprehend. Recently, however, Roc Capital Management and its investment team have led the way in the effort to minimize the public’s distrust of these quants and the computer models that drive their trades. According to the Wall Street Journal, Arvind Raghunathan’s Roc Capital has worked to demystify quant funds and attract new investors with increased transparency, making more information available to the public and disclosing details about operations and investments. Roc provides its investors with transparency reports verified by an independent firm in which investment exposure is broken down and explained by sector, geography and other factors.

With an initial $500 million investment from Raghunathan’s previous employer, Deutsch Bank, Roc Capital has grown into one of the biggest start-ups since the financial crisis and has raised more than $1 billion, and the firm’s transparency policy has attracted new investors to the firm. Roc Capital is among the select quantitative fund managers who have raised new money recently, alongside seasoned firms like David Shaw's D.E. Shaw Group, Highbridge Capital Management and Clifford Asness' AQR Capital.
