Avenue Capital, KKR and Perella Weinberg Vying for Goldman Sachs Trading Unit
| September 29th, 2010 |
|
Three firms, including hedge fund manager Avenue Capital Group, private equity firm KKR and investment bank Perella Weinberg, are courting the U.S.-based principal strategies group of Goldman Sachs after Goldman Sachs announced intentions of spinning the group off to comply with new U.S. regulations.
The principal strategies team, which invests the firm’s own money across various strategies, is run by Bob Howard and could possibly disband if a deal isn’t reached. Marc Lasry, founder of Avenue Capital Group, is said to be pursuing the team personally in an effort to expand his firm’s focus outside of distressed and credit investing. |
