|Cheyne Capital Management (UK) LLP announced this week that it has hired Jorge Giampoaoli as a partner and portfolio manager. Mr. Giampoaoli will be responsible for managing the firm’s newest hedge fund, the Cheyne Equity Macro Fund. According to the firm’s press release, the fund will employ a macro-based equity trading strategy with a focus on short-term, liquid investments. Prior to joining Cheyne, Mr. Giampoaoli worked for eight years at Morgan Stanley. In his most recent role, he led the bank’s proprietary European equities trading group.|
Cheyne Capital’s Chief Investment Officer Chris Goekjian commented, "This is an exciting step for Cheyne to be taking - broadening its equities offerings as well as providing extremely liquid strategies to fit with current investor demand." Mr. Goekjian also joined the firm this year as a partner. In his role, he is responsible for Cheyne’s risk management efforts, as well as overseeing portfolio management teams and developing new investment products. Prior to joining Cheyne, Mr Goekjian was CEO and CIO of Altedge Capital (UK) Ltd, a fund of hedge funds manager that he founded in 2001. Altedge’s businesses will be integrated into Cheyne once it has obtained the necessary legal and regulatory approvals. Previously, he headed up the global fixed income division of Credit Suisse’s investment bank.
Cheyne was founded in 1999 by CEO Jonathan Lourie and President Stuart Fiertz, who formerly managed Morgan Stanley’s convertible bond practice. Cheyne specializes in convertible bonds, credit and asset-backed securities, equities and event-driven investing.
