Contrarian Cap Veteran to Launch Mudrick Capital Distressed Fund

Mudrick Capital Management is in the process of launching the Mudrick Distressed Opportunity Fund LP. According to Dow Jones, the fund has already raised capital and will start trading on August 1. The fund plans to invest in distressed equities, bonds and bank debt. It will also opportunistically invest in shareholder activist situations.

Mudrick Capital Management was founded earlier this year by its CEO Jason Mudrick. Prior to founding the firm, Mr. Mudrick was a portfolio manager at Jon Bauer’s Greenwich, CT-based Contrarian Capital Management, where he managed the distressed focused Contrarian Equity Fund.

Prior to joining Contrarian in 2001, Mr. Mudrick was an associate in the Mergers & Acquisitions Investment Banking Group at Merrill Lynch & Co. Mr. Mudrick has previously served on the Board of Directors of several public and private companies, including: Salton, Inc., Integrated Alarm Services Group, Inc., and Safety-Kleen Holdco.
