In this week’s hire report, we look at recent hires made by hedge fund managers Elliott Management, WestSpring Advisors and Marshall Wace Asset Management as well as mutual fund manager Scout Investment Advisors.

First off is Paul Singer’s deep value focused Elliott Management Corporation, which has named Jaime Hobbeheydar as its new Chief Marketing Officer. Prior to joining the hedge fund manager, Mr. Hobbeheydar held senior positions at Thales Fund Management and Bridgewater Associates. Elliott Management was founded in 1997 and invests in corporate, real estate, and sovereign debt, as well as a select number of equities.

Meanwhile, recently launched WestSpring Advisors has added managing director Brian Cox and senior analyst Michael Manley. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Cox was a managing director of business development at Dallas-based Highland Capital Management. As announced last month, Highland Capital’s Jack Yang, who had headed up the firm’s business development efforts, also departed Highland this summer.

Michael Manley joins WestSpring Advisors from R3 Capital Management where he was also a senior analyst. R3 Capital, which was spun-off from Lehman Brothers, was acquired earlier this year by BlackRock. Prior to R3 Capital, Mr. Manley worked in the equity research division at Credit Suisse.

WestSpring Advisors is a New York-based credit focused manager that was founded in May of this year by Ralph Nacey and Eric Phillipps. Nacey and Phillipps have worked together since 2002, most recently at Brigadier Capital Management.

Next, mutual fund manager Scout Investment Advisors has hired Benjamin Wiesenfeld as its new chief compliance officer and chief legal counsel. Previously, Mr. Wiesenfeld was the chief compliance officer and attorney at Thornburg Investment Management.
Earlier this summer, Scout Investment Advisors acquired the TrendStar Small Cap Fund, which is now the Scout TrendStar Small Cap Fund. As part of the acquisition, the firm added small-cap portfolio managers Thomas W. Laming and James McBride.

Finally, earlier this year, Rajat Sharma joined Marshall Wace’s London office as an equity analyst. Prior to joining the hedge fund manager, Mr. Sharma was an Equity analyst at multi-strategy shop Stark Investments.
