In this week’s HedgeTracker Fund Spotlight, we look at three emerging hedge fund managers that have recently been added to HedgeTracker’s Free Hedge Fund Directory. The emerging managers were all formed earlier this year and all have strategies that focus on investing in Asia. The new hedge fund list includes: Cavenagh Capital, JTM Capital Partners and SaKa Capital.
Cavenagh Capital was founded by Lee Ka Shao and Andrew Gale. Prior to founding the firm, Lee Ka Shao managed a Global-Asian macro portfolio for DBS, while Mr. Gale worked for Dexion Capital in product development and capital raising. The firm’s first fund is the Cavenagh Asia Macro Fund.
The JTM Capital Partners is a China-focused hedge fund founded by Lu Jun, Man Wing Chung and Joseph Tang. Prior to founding the firm, the founders were portfolio managers at JPMorgan. The firm’s Greater China Opportunity Fund seeks to capitalize on rising investor demand for Asian equities.
SaKa Capital was founded by Assan Din. Prior to founding the firm, Din helped set up hedge fund R3 Capital Management, which was spun-off of Lehman Brothers in 2008. Prior to R3, Mr. Din was a credit trader at Lehman. SaKa plans to invest in corporate bonds and derivatives in Asia through its flagship SaKaCapital Liquid Credit Fund, which is slated to start trading in September 2009.
Another notable Asian hedge fund manager is the Sparx Group Co, which is one of the largest hedge fund managers in Asia. Last month, the firm announced that it was in the process of launching Sparx Global Macro Fund.
