|In this week’s hedge fund hire report, we look at recent hires made by a few notable emerging managers that were launched within the last couple of years, including: Matthew Grossman’s Plural Investments LLC, Zoe Cruz’s Voras Capital Management and Barclays Capital spin-off C12 Capital Management.|
Plural Investments , which was one of the largest hedge fund start-ups of 2008 with $900 million in AUM at launch, has recently made several veteran additions to its portfolio management ranks. Before founding Plural Investments, CEO & Chief Investment Officer Matthew Grossman was the chief investment officer at CR Intrinsic, a subsidiary of Steven A. Cohen's SAC Capital.
The firm’s new portfolio managers include Justin Smolkin, Haibo Yu and Nick O'Grady. Prior to joining Plural Investments, Mr. Smolkin was a Vice-President at Morgan Stanley and before that was an analyst at hedge fund manager Catapult Capital.
Haibo Yu joins Plural Investments from Principled Capital Management, where he was a portfolio manager covering the healthcare sector. In January of this year, Principled Capital’s founder Gerry Catenacci announced that he was shutting down his hedge fund due to lackluster returns.
Finally, Mr. O'Grady, who joined Plural late last year, was previously a portfolio manager at Highbridge Capital Management. Before Highbridge, he was senior analyst at Sandell Asset Management where he covered energy and utility stocks.
