In this week’s hedge fund Spotlight, we look at two Asian focused emerging hedge fund managers that were founded recently by veterans from Sansar Capital and TPG-Axon Capital. The featured funds include Flowering Tree Investment Management, and LionRock Capital.
Singapore-based Flowering Tree Investment Management Pte Ltd is a long/short Asian equity focused manager was founded in May of this year by Rajesh Sachdeva. Prior to founding Flowering Tree, Mr. Sachdeva was a founding partner at hedge fund Sansar Capital LLC, where he was president of the Sansar Capital Asia hedge fund. Among others, Mr. Sachdeva’s team includes partner Elisabeth Thom. Prior to joining Flowering Tree, Ms. Thom was a director at JL Capital and a convertible arbitrage analyst at Ferox Capital Management.
The next hedge fund, LionRock Capital Pte, was founded this summer by Hari Kumar and Julian Snaith. Like Flowering Tree, the firm is also based in Singapore and focuses on Asia-Pacific stocks. Prior to starting LionRock, the two founders where both at Dinakar Singh’s TPG-Axon Capital Management. The firm’s first fund has been seeded with $75 Million of the two founders own money.
The founders’ investment efforts are supported by research analysts Maxence Vinot and Anthony Sawtell. Mr. Vinot and Mr. Sawtell joined LionRock from Tantallon Capital Advisors and Davidson Kempner Capital Management, respectively.
