Former SPM star trader finally joins John Burbank’s Passport Capital

Jeffrey Kong, a former star trader at Structured Portfolio Management (SPM), will be joining Passport Capital, according to the Stamford Advocate. Last year, SPM sued Mr. Kong, after he took a job with John Burbank’s Passport Capital, for violating a non-compete clause. In response, Kong counter sued SPM demanding compensation for his a cut of the performance fees that he generated while managing portfolios at SPM.

Now that a settlement between the two parties has been reached, Jeffrey Kong has officially joined Passport Capital as a portfolio manager. Mr. Kong has 25 years of experience trading and evaluating mortgage-backed securities. SPM specializes in the mortgage backed securities, while Passport Capital’s investment portfolios span multiple industries, asset classes, market capitalizations and geographies.
