In this week’s hedge fund hiring report, we review recent additions made by a number of top hedge fund managers, including Moore Capital Management, Millennium Management and Breeden Capital Management, as well as emerging hedge fund manager Flintlock Capital Asset Management. We also take a look at some industry veterans that joined HSBC Prime Services unit and investment management consultant Perfecta Partners.
Louis Bacon’s Moore Capital Management has added a number of industry veterans to its investment team, including Matthew Carpenter, Matthew Newton, and Jonathan Cheng. Matthew Carpenter, who officially joined Moore Capital last month as Head of Equity Trading, previously led a proprietary equity trading group at Citigroup that oversaw more than $1 billion in assets. Prior to forming the prop-trading group, Carpenter was a managing director in Citigroup’s US equity research division and before that he was partner at Citigroup Private Equity. Matthew Newton also joins Moore Capital from Citigroup where he was a key member of Carpenter’s prop-trading team.
Jonathan Cheng is now a portfolio manager at Moore Capital where he focuses on consumer and retail sectors. Prior joining the multi-strategy hedge fund manager, he was a portfolio manager at Overland Park Capital and Richard Perry’s Perry Capital.
Flintlock Capital Asset Management, a commodities focused hedge fund manager that launched its maiden fund earlier this year, has hired Justin Nelson as risk manager and James Dollinger-McElligott as a research analyst. Mr. Nelson joins from Zimmer Lucas, while Dollinger-McElligott joins from Touradji Capital where he was an analyst and junior trader. Flintlock Capital was founded in late 2009 by Steve Matthews who was previously head of commodities research at Tudor Jones’ Tudor Investment Corporation.
Izzy’s Englander global multi-strategy hedge fund firm, Millennium Management, has named Kunho Cho chairman of its Asian businesses. Mr. Cho, who will oversee the growth of Millennium Management’s Asian business, was previously head of Lehman Brothers’ Asia-Pacific investment banking operations.
Breeden Capital Management has recently brought aboard Joshua Fenton as a Senior Managing Director. Fenton was previously the Director of Global Equity Research at NY-based global growth equity manager Clay Finlay. Prior that, Fenton spent nearly 10 years at Mario Gabelli’s GAMCO Asset Management (Gabelli Asset Management) where he was Director of Research.
At Richard C. Breeden’s Greenwich-based hedge fund, Fenton is now Director of Research and Trading. Beyond directing the US-based research team, he also serves on the investment committees for Breeden Capital’s U.S. and European funds.
