In this week’s hedge fund hiring report, we look at recent additions made by Tiger Global Management, the Matrix Group, Level Global Investors and Farallon Capital Management. The hedge fund managers in this week’s report have poached talent from many venerable firms, including: Blackstone, McKinsey, Man Group, Atticus Capital and Goldman Sachs.
Tiger Global Management, which is led by one of Julian Robertson’s most well-known “Tiger Seeds” Chase Coleman, has added to its investment team by hiring Alan Friedman and Joaquin Tamez. Friedman is focusing on private equity valuations at Tiger Global. Before joining the firm, he was an AVP in the Blackstone Group’s Private Equity Valuation group. Prior to that, he was at Goldman Sachs. Tamez is focusing on Latin American investment opportunities for the hedge fund manager. Prior to consulting for Tiger Global, Tamez was a VP at Hotels.com and an engagement leader at management consulting firm McKinsey & Co.
The Matrix Group, which oversees a platform of multi-strategy hedge funds, has made a number new hires in its risk, sales and marketing functions. The highest profile hire is Tiraneh Tehranchian who takes on the role as Head of Risk for the firm’s asset management business, which has assets of more than $4 billion. She initially joined the firm in January of 2010 as a consultant. Prior to joining Matrix, Ms. Tehranchian was head of risk in Man Investments’ Man Global Strategies group. Before that she was a risk manager at Abbey National Treasury Services.
The Matrix Group has also hired Chris Beament and Chris Elliott as a Business Development Manager and a Marketing Executive, respectively. Mr. Beament spent the last four years at Legal & General Investment Management where he distributed the asset manager’s unit trust range. In his new role, he “will be responsible for the distribution of Matrix’ funds including single strategy hedge funds, funds of hedge funds and externally managed funds to the institutional, private client and intermediary marketplaces.” Prior to joining Matrix, Chris Elliott worked as an analyst in the Goldman Sachs’ Private Wealth Management division in Auckland.
