Renowned hedge fund manager Julian Roberston, of Tiger Management fame, has become the first honorary knight in New Zealand. Though Mr. Robertson is an American citizen and resident of New York, he has spent much of his time in New Zealand in the past thirty years, especially after his retirement from Tiger Management, which once had $22 billion in assets under management.

According to FinAlternatives, Mr. Robertson, who first visited the country in 1978 to write a novel, earned the honor for his philanthropic efforts in New Zealand, including a donation of 15 works of art valued at $115 million to the Auckland Art Gallery and the establishment of a scholarship program for New Zealand citizens.

Since closing Tiger Management, Julian Roberston’s prodigies, also known as “Tiger Cubs,” have launched several successful hedge funds, most of which have been seeded in some part by Mr. Robertson.

Some of the notable “Tiger Seeds” include: Chase Coleman’s tech-focused Tiger Global (technology-focused); Bill Hwang’s Tiger Asia; Tom Faciola and Michael Sears’s Tiger Shark Management; Patrick McCormack’s Tiger Consumer; Manish Chopra’s Tiger Veda; Robert Jafek’s Torrey Pines Capital Management and RJ McCreary of Kelusa Capital and Emil Henry’s Tiger Infrastructure Fund, which was seeded in November of 2009.

The clan of Tiger Cubs includes: Lee Ainslie of Maverick Capital; John Griffin of Blue Ridge Capital,
