Reuters reported today that Moore Capital Management is in the process of raising capital for two emerging market hedge funds that are managed by its new star portfolio manager Greg Coffey. The funds where launched earlier this month and are aiming to raise a combined $500 million.

Mr. Coffey joined Moore in November of 2008 after a much publicized departure from GLG Partners, where he was a top manager overseeing $7 billion in assets. In April 2008, initial reports predicted that Mr. Coffey was planning to start his own firm, but in the end, Moore was able to bring him on as its Co-Chief Investment Officer.
