Philip Duff, the former co-founder of FrontPoint Partners, has announced plans for a third venture into the hedge fund industry with the launch of hedge fund Massif Partners. Mr. Duff’s Massif Partners will aim to provide a variety of investment services to pension funds to help them reach obligations that were made extremely difficult by the financial crisis.

Earlier in his career, Philip Duff left Morgan Stanley as Chief Financial Officer to become the Chief Operating Officer of Julian Robertson’s Tiger Management. Duff left Tiger in 2000 to found FrontPoint Partners with Gil Caffray and Paul Ghaffari. Mr. Duff then left FrontPoint in 2006 when Morgan Stanley bought the hedge fund firm.

Later, he went on to found hedge fund Duff Capital Management in 2008. However, Duff Capital was hit severely by the financial crisis and closed just a year later. Massif Partners will employ a similar strategy than Duff Capital, but Philip Duff is hoping that timing is right this time.
