SAC Capital and Crestwood Advisors add Industry Veterans

In this week’s hedge fund hire report, we look at firms that have recently added industry veterans to their teams. The investment firms covered in this report include: SAC Capital Advisors and Crestwood Advisors.

First off is Steven A. Cohen’s SAC Capital Advisors, which hired Douglas Blagdon and Ross Garon earlier this summer, has made another senior hire by adding portfolio manager Muhammed Yesilhark to its London-based investment team. Mr. Yesilhark joins SAC from hedge fund manager York Capital. According to the Financial News, he will officially join the team sometime next month.

London-based S.A.C. Global Investors LLP, formerly Walter Capital Management, is an independent investment manager affiliated with SAC. The team is led by CEO Drew Lubin and invests principally in non-US equity and debt securities. As of 6-30-09, the Greenwich-based SAC Capital managed $4.9bn in US Equities, which is up from $3.3bn as of 3-31-09.

Next, on Thursday of last week, Crestwood Advisors LLC announced that it had hired James C. Bacon as a Director in its investment research group. Mr. Bacon previously worked at mutual fund manager MFS Investment Management where he was a healthcare analyst. Mr. Bacon holds a CFA and earned his MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School.

Crestwood’s Managing Partner Robert G. Ix commented that James’ “deep experience and thoughtful approach, along with his integrity and keen understanding of the fundamental equity research process make him a terrific addition to our organization…James’s hire speaks to serious commitment to fundamental investment research.” Crestwood Advisors is based a Boston-based investment and wealth management firm that serves high-net-worth individuals, families, endowments and foundations. As of 6-30-09, the firm managed $217mm in US Equities.
