Sprott Asset Management (SAM) announced that its star hedge fund manager, Jean-François Tardif, will retire effective July 7, 2009. Mr. Tardif, a senior portfolio manager, currently oversees the Sprott Opportunities Hedge Fund LP, Sprott Opportunities RSP Fund and Sprott Opportunities Offshore Fund.
Mr. Tardif’s Sprott Opportunities Hedge Fund LP has boasted an annualized compound rate of return of 20.97% since inception in mid 2004. For his successes, Mr. Tardiff was recognized in 2007 as the Best Canada-based Hedge Fund Manager by HFM Week. Mr. Tardif joined SAM in November 2001 after successful portfolio manager stints at ING Investment Management and Cote 100.
Upon retirement, Mr. Tardif’s duties will transfer to two current members of SAM’s investment management team, Charles Oliver and Jamie Horvat. Mr. Oliver and Mr. Horvat both currently co-manage the Sprott Gold & Precious Minerals Fund and the Sprott All Cap Fund. Prior to joining SAM in early 2008, both were portfolio managers at AGF Management Limited where they oversaw more than $4 billion of assets under management. |
