In this hedge fund spotlight report, we are showcasing three top hedge fund managers that are global macro specialists. All of the hedge funds in this report are from HedgeTracker’s hedge fund directory. First off is Alan Howard’s Brevan Howard Asset Management, which is one of the world’s largest hedge fund managers with over $27,000 million in assets under management. The firm’s flagship fund is the global macro Brevan Howard Master Fund. The hedge fund oversees approximately $22,000 million in assets and was recently named to Barron’s 2009 Top 100 Hedge Fund list for its impressive 3-year compounded annual returns of 21.52%. During 2009, the hedge fund returned 19.10%, positioning it as #24 on the list. Notably, Brevan Howard also has two publicly traded feeder funds, BH Macro and BH Global, which invest their assets in the Brevan Howard Master, Equity Strategies Master, Asia Master, Emerging Markets Strategies Master and the Strategic Opportunities hedge funds.
Next from the Hedge Fund Directory is Charlotte-based Round Table Investment Management Company, which was founded by CEO & Chief Investment Officer Ian Banwell. Prior to founding Round Table in 2007, Mr. Banwell was Chief Investment Officer of Bank of America, where he was responsible for overseeing the management of interest-rate risk for the bank's $1.5 trillion in assets as well as the management of proprietary portfolios.
In February of 2010, the firm launched the Round Table Global Macro Fund, which as May 2010 managed approximately $235 million. The firm uses a discretionary strategy with 8-12 themes each consisting of 2-5 expressions. Round Table’s themes are primarily directional in nature with risk allocations spread across rates, equities and FX.
