Global Macro hedge funds and Macro Funds invest in a wide array of securities and financial derivatives, making broad bets on the movement of the financial markets. Instead of looking at the global economy, the more narrowly focused Macro funds typically have regional or country focuses. Global Macro hedge funds commonly invest in currencies, commodities, equities, ETFs, fixed income securities, options, and various derivatives. Global Macro managers develop investment strategies that aim to forecast movements in interest rates, fund flows, political changes and other wide-ranging systematic factors. The most legendary Global Macro is George Soros of Soros Fund Management, who made approximately $2 billion in 1992 by aggressively shorting the British pound.
