(NYSE: BRK.A) is a conglomerate holding company under the leadership of Chairman and CEO Warren Buffett who is commonly referred to as the 'Oracle of Omaha' for his formidable investing prowess. He was named Forbes' richest person in the world for 2008 with a net worth of $62 billion. The company traces its roots back to 1839, when Oliver Chace founded a textile mill. In 1965, Warren Buffett took control of Berkshire Hathaway and over the years has transformed the textile company into a conglomerate of diverse and successful businesses.

Berkshire Hathaway currently manages a number of subsidiary companies in a wide range of businesses ranging from jewelry to utilities; it has also never performed a stock split or paid a dividend. The company's largest subsidiaries include GEICO, General Re, Berkshire Hathaway Reinsurance Group, and MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company. Operating decisions for the various Berkshire Hathaway businesses are made by managers of the business units.

Investment decisions and all other capital allocation decisions are made for Berkshire and its subsidiaries by Warren Buffett, in consultation with Charles T. Munger, the Vice Chairman of Berkshire's Board of Directors.

According to its 2008 Annual Report, Berkshire Hathaway's largest public equity positions by percentage of shares owned were: The Washington Post Company (18.4%), American Express Company (13.1%), Kraft Foods Inc. (8.9%), The Coca-Cola Company (8.6%), and Wells Fargo & Company (7.2%). Mr. Buffett serves as the lead director for the Washington Post.
