Institutional Investor Background
Duquesne Capital Management was a hedge fund manager founded by CEO Stanley Druckenmiller in 1981. From 1989 to 2000, Mr. Drunkenmiller was also the Chief Strategist and manager of Soros Fund Management's flagship Quantum Fund.
In August 2010, the firm announced that it was shutting downs its hedge funds. The firm continues to manage assets for Mr. Druckenmiller and his associates. Notably, a significant portion of Duquesne's investment team team launched PointState Capital in late 2010.
Duquesne Capital is a multi-strategy investor that employs both global macro and long/short strategies. Predominately a top-down investor, Duquesne's philosophy is to hold a core group of stocks long and a core group of stocks short and then use leverage to trade S&P futures, bonds and currencies.
For its long positions, the firm identifies attractive sectors and then uncovers the best growth or value investments within those sectors. Duquesne typically invests in undervalued, out-of-favor stocks that are making a comeback or companies that are outperforming their peers and showing evidence for continued growth. Duquesne Capital has offices in New York and Pittsburgh.
