OakTree Capital Management LLC is an investment manager founded in 1995 by a team of former TCW Group investment professionals including current Chairman Howard S. Marks, current President and Portfolio Manager Bruce A. Karsh as well as 5 other principals.
The firm offers strategies in high-yield debt, convertibles, distressed debt, private equity, and real estate. OakTree Capital also focuses on public equities in Japan and emerging markets. In September 2007, OakTree acquired Pangaea Capital Management and in 2009, Oaktree was chosen to create funds under the US Treasury's Public-Private Investment Plan, which will absorb debt from banks affected by the financial crisis. The firm is headquartered in Los Angeles and has additional investment offices in New York, Tokyo, London, Singapore, and Frankfurt.
