Ramius Capital Group is a hedge fund management firm founded in 1994 by Peter Cohen, one of the firm's four Managing Members and the former Chairman and CEO of Shearson Lehman Brothers. The other three Managing Members are Jeffrey Solomon (Chief Strategy Officer and Chairman of the Investment Committee), Morgan Stark (President and CEO of Ramius Alternative Investments), and Thomas Strauss (CEO and President of Alternative Solutions).
In November 2009, Ramius acquired boutique investment bank Cowen Group Inc. (NASDAQ: COWN) and the firm now operates as the global alternative investment management branch of Cowen Group. Following the acquisition Peter Cohen became Chairman and CEO of Cowen Group, while David 'Greg' M. Malcolm became the President and CEO of Cowen & Company, overseeing the company's research, trading and investment banking efforts.
Ramius provides discretionary investment management and merchant banking services to U.S. and international institutions as well as private investors. The firm is headquartered in New York with offices located in London, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Munich, and Vienna.
