Ramius Capital Group is a hedge fund management firm founded in 1994 by Peter Cohen, one of the firm's four Managing Members and the former Chairman and CEO of Shearson Lehman Brothers. The other three Managing Members are Jeffrey Solomon, Morgan Stark, and Thomas Strauss. Ramius is privately-owned and provides discretionary investment management and merchant banking services to U.S. and international institutions as well as private investors. The firm is headquartered in New York with offices located in London, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Munich, and Vienna. In June 2009, Ramius signed an agreement to purchase boutique investment bank Cowen Group Inc. (NASDAQ: COWN) in a deal that will create a diversified financial services. Following the deal, which is expected to be finalized in Q4 2009, the firm is expected to adopt the Cowen Group Inc name.
