York Capital Management LP is a hedge fund manager that was founded by Chairman and Chief Executive Officer James Dinan in 1991. Before founding York, Mr. Dinan was a General Partner at Kellner, DiLeo & Co., where he focused on special situations investments and risk arbitrage. Dan Schwartz, who joined York in 1993, is the firm's Chief Investment Officer and a managing partner. He also serves as a co-portfolio manager of the York Multi-Strategy, York Select, and York Credit Opportunities, among others.
York Capital Management follows an event-driven investment strategy, focusing on imbalances created by mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, spinoffs, splitups, and proxy contests. The fund serves institutions, foundations, endowments, and wealthy individuals and manages a series of hedge funds that includes the York Enhanced Strategies, York Select, York Global Value, York Total Return, York European Opportunities, York Asian Opportunities, York Credit Opportunities and the 1974 Commodore Select funds. .
In 2010, Credit Suisse's Asset Management division acquired a minority interest in York Capital for $425 million. The firm is based in New York and operates additional offices in Washington, DC, London and Hong Kong.
